Telangana Handicrafts Development Corporation was set up in the year 2015 under the Companies Act, 2013. The Govt. has also approved “GOLKONDA” as new Trade Mark which represents the culture and heritage of Telangana.
Objectives
- The primary objectives of the Corporation are promotion, development and marketing of handicrafts and artistic textiles and also welfare of about more than one lakh craft persons working in different craft pockets spread all over Telangana. The major metal based crafts are Silver filigree of Karimnagar, Dokra castings of Komrambhim Dist., Bidri of Hyderabad Brassware of Warangal &Jangaon Dist. Wood based Crafts are Bonthapally Toys of Sangareddy Dist. Nirmal toys of Nirmal, Nirmal paintings and furniture of Hyd. wooden panels &carvings ofNizamabadScroll paintings of Cherial and Bathik paintings of Siddipet, ZariZardozi of SangareddyAari work of Hyd. Banjara Embroidery from Hyderabad, Devarakonda , Yellammathanda etc. Artistic textiles of Tie & dye of Nalgonda, Gollabamasarees of Siddipet, Zari& Cotton sareess of Gadwal, Narayanpet, Kothakonta and Cotton jute & printed durries from Warangal. Tusser silk of Mahadevpur etc. All of the above skilled based crafts having self employment potential.
- TGHDC is having Ten Golkonda sales emporia in Telangana and one Production unit namely Nirmal Industry at Hyderabad and also one at New Delhi and another at Kolkata .
- TGHDC organizes Exhibitions/Craft Bazaars in the State of Telangana. The TGHDC also hosts major events like ‘Gandhi Shilp Bazaars’ organized by the Development Commissioner for Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India in Hyderabad and other potential cities of Telangana State.
- TGHDC organizes every year training programmes for skill up-gradation, Design Development, Workshops etc., for the benefit of artisans by inviting the designers from reputed institutions to develop the skills of artisans as well as the products, to meet the changing market demand and trends. About 500 craft persons are benefited every year from these programmes
- The Corporation has established a Common Facility Centre at HasthakalaBhavan, Musheerabad, Hyderabad for Multicrafts. The Corporation is also setting up four CFCs at Bonthapally SangareddyDist for wooden toys, Silver Filigree at Karimnagar, Karimnagar DistBanjaraEmbroidery atDeverkonda of NalgondaDist and Nirmal Toys at Nirmal , Nirmal Dist. It is also planning to set up more CFC’s at need based craft clusters.
- The T.G. has obtained registration for Twelve prominent and traditional crafts of Telangana State which are Nirmal Paintings,Nirmal Furniture,Pembarthy Metal craft,Cheriyal Paintings,PochampallyIkkat, Silver Filigree,Nirmal Toys and Craft,Gadwal Sarees,Siddipeta Gollabama and Narayanpet Handloom Sarees, Adilabad Dokra crafts and Warangal Durries registered under Geographical Indication Registration Act, to protect the crafts from being copied or exploited and for improved market linkage, brand identity and for sustained market opportunities.
- TGHDC is giving old age pensions to the artisans who are poor and aged above 60 years who are unable to practice their craft. Corporation has sanctioned old age pension to about 92 artisans @ Rs.500 per month. Now the pension amount enhanced to Rs.1,000/- per month.
